Hundreds of images, no alt text
Old uploads, product photos, and imported content often ship with empty alt attributes. Search engines and screen readers see nothing.
AI alt text for WordPress & WooCommerce
AltMint finds every image on your site that is missing alt text, writes a descriptive suggestion with an AI vision model, and lets you review every line before it goes live. Better image SEO, better accessibility, zero blind overwrites.
Installable today: WordPress 6.2+ · PHP 7.4+ · your own AI key.
Built for small teams that never got around to alt text
Every image without alt text is a missed ranking signal and an accessibility gap. At scale, fixing it manually is the job nobody wants.
Old uploads, product photos, and imported content often ship with empty alt attributes. Search engines and screen readers see nothing.
Opening each image, looking at it, and writing a specific description takes 30–60 seconds per image. A 500-image library becomes a week of work.
Filename-based auto-fill produces lazy alt text (“IMG_2041”), and bulk replacement can destroy alt text you carefully wrote. Neither is good for SEO.
AltMint fits into the routine you already have. You stay in control of every suggestion.
AltMint lists every image attachment and product image that has no alt text — including images buried in the media library since 2014.
An AI vision model looks at each image and writes a description. AltMint adds context such as the filename and the page or product the image belongs to.
Every suggestion is stored as a suggestion, not as live alt text. Edit anything that sounds generic before it reaches your site.
Approve what you like and save all reviewed suggestions in one click. Re-run the scan later to catch new uploads.
Scan regular image attachments and product images — featured images and galleries both.
Bring an OpenAI, OpenRouter, or Google Gemini key. It stays in your WordPress database, and you pay the provider directly.
Images that already have alt text are skipped by default. Switch to “All images” when you want to audit and improve them; suggestions stay separate until you approve.
Tweak tone, length, and wording per image. Set a maximum word count and an extra prompt for your brand voice.
Generate alt text in the language your audience actually reads, not just English.
The plugin does not send usage data anywhere. The only outbound request is the generation call to the AI provider you chose.
AI is good at describing images and bad at knowing your intent. AltMint keeps a human in the loop by design.
| Approach | Speed | Quality | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Write every alt by hand | Slow | High | None, if you finish |
| Filename-based bulk fill | Fast | Low | Junk alt text everywhere |
| Unreviewed AI auto-apply | Fast | Medium | Generic or wrong descriptions go live |
| AltMint (review-first AI) | Fast | High | You approve every change |

Yes. The free plan includes 100 generated images per month, forever. You bring your own AI API key, so you pay the AI provider directly — usually a fraction of a cent per image depending on the model.
Yes, AltMint is bring-your-own-key. You can connect OpenAI, OpenRouter, or Google Gemini. The key is stored only in your WordPress options and is never sent anywhere except the provider you chose. If you don’t have a key, the plugin runs in demo mode so you can try the workflow first.
No. AltMint only scans images with missing alt text by default, and every AI suggestion is stored separately from the live alt attribute. If you want to improve existing descriptions, switch the scan to “All images” — nothing changes on your site until you review and save it.
Yes. AltMint supports WooCommerce product images, including the featured image and gallery images, and uses the product name as context for the generated text.
WordPress 6.2 and newer, PHP 7.4 and newer. The plugin has no build step and no external JavaScript dependencies.
Missing alt text is one of the most common WCAG failures. Fixing it helps you comply with policies such as the ADA in the US and the European Accessibility Act, and it makes your content usable with screen readers.
Creem emails a receipt that includes your license key. Install the free plugin and the Pro add-on, open AltMint → License, paste the key, and activate it. One license activates one WordPress site — deactivate it there first if you move the site.
No. There is no AltMint image server. Images go from your WordPress site directly to the AI provider you configured, and your API key stays in your WordPress database. Pro licensing only sends the license key and site name to our small license service.
One license covers one WordPress site. You can deactivate it under AltMint → License and activate it on another site at any time. Need several sites? Email support and we will sort out a plan.
Email support@altmint.com within 14 days of purchase and we will fix the problem or refund you. You can cancel the subscription from your Creem receipt at any time — the site keeps working on the free plan.
Download the free beta zip from this page, then go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin in WordPress. The free plugin is also headed to the WordPress.org directory soon; the waitlist gets a note when it is live.
